Family Skiing in Scotland, YHA style maybe ?

Skiing in Scotland in a kilt - whatever takes your fancy !With two young boys (10 and 8) and two novice parents we’ve been looking for a cheap holiday to see if we even want to ski or snowboard in arctic conditions. As usual, me, the mother, is the problem because I feel the chill, so with little money to spend on holidays we don’t want to break the bank. After all I might need a hot tropical holiday in order to recover from this one!

Since we joined the YHA this year this seems a good idea:
A beautiful looking 4 star hostel in the Cairngorms that do great value winter skills courses.
There are hostels in all the other main winter sports areas like Aviemore, Braemar, Glen Nevis and Glencoe.
You could try a Winter Skills weekend, minimum age 14, to bond with a sulky teenager! (why not look at our selection of spa holidays to recover from this one!)

For lots of hostels in Scotland go to http://www.syha.org/ and explore some of the other activities on offer including long-distance walking, hillwalking, mountain-biking and pony trekking holidays.
This SYHA Youth Hostel is conveniently located within walking distance of Princes Street, Edinburgh Castle, Waverley Station and St Andrew Square Bus station and a bit less than 10 miles from Edinburgh airport, this former office building is really ideally situated and will provide quality and very affordable accommodationI rather like the look of Hostel of the month in Edinburgh. Maybe we should book it for next years’s Edinburgh festival! What do you think Ben?
This £10m investment is the largest by SYHA since the refurbishment of itsGlasgow Youth Hostel in 2004, the refurbishment of Inverness hostel and the transformation of the remote Loch Ossian Youth Hostel into an Eco-hostelusing the very latest environmental science.
In addition the hostel houses its own 70-seater full-service restaurant, employing a team of professional chefs. The restaurant is also available for business clients using the conference facilities. The food has an international flavour in order to satisfy the varying pallets of the global clientele.

Just read a rather interesing article in the Independant today about the Cairngorms.

I live in Ballater (well within the Cairngorm National Park).

I`m also interested in climate change so this was doubly interesing to me.
